Copying files from host machine to inside DaDesktop machine
A frequently requested feature is the ability to copy files from a Trainer's own laptop or desktop into the DaDesktop machine. These files may be presentations, install ISOs for use in a nested virtualisation system that enables multiple servers and desktops to run, or general files required for a particular training application.
The team has introduced a new, easy-to-use file transfer feature in our latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates, allowing files to be easily dragged and dropped from the host machine (i.e., your laptop or desktop) to the DaDesktop machine.
Currently, file transfer is limited to one file at a time, but if you need to copy multiple files, you can create a zip archive and drag & drop that as well. The file transfer employs chunking to send large files efficiently, and works best with a fast fibre internet connection. Any folders within the archive, e.g., zip file, are preserved.
For Linux templates, we currently do not have a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder on the desktop as in the Windows templates above. Instead, the files can be found at:
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
