DaDesktop

Hyper-V Server

UPDATED April 2024

Most applications function quite normally when set up on the Fresh Start machine using DaDesktop (DD). However, there are a couple of applications that, owing to the cloning process, do not operate as expected and require a few additional steps for normal functioning.

Notes on Fresh Start Fix
  1. Please note this is a generic guide for fixing this application when using it within Fresh Start. Steps may differ based on your exact setup configuration.

  2. Summary – The fix on Fresh Start is as given below. Hyper-V encounters a problem with duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when cloned from the FreshStart machine. Hence, we either select the second pre-configured Intel network connection or remove the external switch in the FreshStart machine before cloning, as detailed below).

Fix process

1. Below is the Hyper-V Manager application. Right-click to select the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box.

2. On the Virtual Switch Manager dialog box as shown below, select the 'External' switch, then choose the Intel Pro /1000 network connection. NB This is only available when using newer Windows 10 templates, v71 and higher. Click OK, and save the configuration if necessary. Close the Hyper-V manager application.

3. Proceed with the FreshStart machine configuration as needed. Once the configuration is complete, shut down the machine from within the VM, waiting until it has fully stopped. Then clone the FreshStart machine to the Trainer and Participant machines as required.

The Hyper-V server should now run correctly on the Trainers’ and Participants’ machines. Without this modification, participants might end up seeing each other’s machines instead of their own, because cloning the external network card results in duplicate MAC addresses on the External switch when cloned from the FreshStart machine.
