Improving Connection Performance
There are times when DaDesktop may warn you if your connection appears to have a 'latency' (delay) that is too slow to provide good performance.
In this case, please follow the steps below to try to improve your connection.
Steps to take
- Use an Ethernet connection if possible, or if using Wi-Fi, take an internet speed test beforehand to check your speed, e.g., using speedtest.net
- Stay as close to the wireless access point as you can. Prefer 5 GHz Wi-Fi over 2.4 GHz, as the 2.4 GHz band often delivers lower speeds and is more susceptible to interference than the 5 GHz band.
- Switch off or disable any VPNs or proxies before joining the course
- If possible, disable any security applications that could conflict with the network connection, as these can affect connection speed—i.e., latency sometimes.
-
Participants may wish to speak to their company IT support for assistance, especially if their network is impacted by content or network filtering etc.
Whitelisting the following domains can help:-
1. https://\*.npg.io (e.g., any host at .npg.io)
2. https://dd4t.dadesktop.com - Avoid making large downloads or uploads during the course; pause Windows, Mac, or Linux updates, if possible, until after the course
-
Internet speed should be faster than: "10 Mbps download & 1 Mbps upload"
